Hey people this is my submission for the Desert Detour competition. Up for download now :)

I wanted to incorporate the Egyptian Book of the Dead, but the scroll had to be a certain size for the characters and hieroglyphs to be recognizable, so the scroll dictated the rest of the build.
This is the original Book of the Dead.


The Sea Snail land ship was something I have wanted to build for a while for my character Pirate Pilgrimz, so I threw him into the build and the story.

I have just updated this build its all done now, I fixed the underarm of the statues, and Osiris hand better fits the scroll. They were minor fixes but I updated the download as well. I want to thank everyone who's commented and given diamonds :)

Here is the continuing story of Steve to explain my map.


THE BOOK OF THE DEAD



Steve felt the air cool as he stumbled forward into shade. He rubbed his eyes as they adjusted to the shadows cast by three colossal statues that now surrounded him.

He stood and stared in amazement, after days of endless yellow sand he was now surrounded by a kaleidoscope of colour. These ancient monuments were adorned with pearlescent white robes inlayed with gold and diamonds.

A Chicken ran past, hoped over a few sand blocks and vanished, with what appeared to be a pirate in hot pursuit. The Pirate stopped and turned to Steve, ‘Ahoy their Steve, what ya doin all da way out here lad?

Steve didn’t reply, he was shocked to see another minecrafter out in the deep desert.

'It’s me Pilgrimz, ya don’t recognise me lad'? Continued the Pirate.

‘Ah ye stunned ta silence by me epic build are ya, well ya see a built this place a few thousand years ago for some Egyptain fellas'.

'On ya left there ya got Horus, he be a falcon headed patron God of Egypt associated with da sky, war n hunting'.

'Then on ya right there we gots the jackal headed God Anubis, who guides the souls of the dead through the underworld'.

'They both be holdin up a scroll from tha Book of tha dead, for Osiris to inspect, and he be King of the underworld, and the blessed dead'.

‘Pretty cool eh?’ Said Pirate Pilgrimz as he cocked his head to one side and wondered if Steve had listened to a word he had said.

Steve glanced around at the great Deities and nodded slowly.



‘Here catch’ shouted Pilgrimz, tossing a gold block to Steve, who instinctively held out his arms and caught it.

‘Ya see Steve I’s been here, ermm well let’s say reclaiming some of the blocks from the Old statues and I totally forgot about the killer stone scarabs that protect the site and now theys be trying ta smush us. But don’t worry lad, I gots me land ship the Sea Snail close by. Lets go’, with that Pilgrimz took off through the sand.

Steve looked down at the gold block, then heard an unholy screech as another stone scarab burst from the dunes. Steve was soon on the heels of the pirate as they ran for the ungainly contraption in the distance.
