Here we are again, hope you all have been doing fine. I just got out of some really study heavy weeks, and with that I finally bring you my 3:1 version of probably my favorite Portuguese locomotive.

If you saw my April fools project , the real CP 0280 will come next as I start a series of Portuguese steams. This engine, the 0186 in particular, is the only running steam locomotive in the country, which I’ve seen many, many times and because of that she was my first pick.

The idea for this series came when I recently found blueprints for pretty much all CP steam locomotives. I hope you enjoy this project as much I did making it, thank you!

This project features the CP 0180 series, with full cab and interior details, buit to 3:1 scale.

HISTORY

The CP 0180 series is a set of 10 massive tank locomotives built between 1924 and 1925 at Kassel, Germany, to serve the many branch lines. Powerful, compact and robust, prefect to tackle de twisting valley lines and several grades with their frequent stops, they became very popular alongside the smaller 070 tank, for both passenger and freight runs. Initially coal burns, as all other broad gauge engines were converted to oil in the late 40’s. Scrapped around the 70’s when the 1400’s diesels finally came to replace steam, the memorable series was reduced to 2 units, 0187 and 0186.

In 1992, 0187 was repaired to running condition, and the boiler fitted to burn coal once more. Later on started hauling the first special steam services until finally her parts her used to fix 0186, which started the first regular heritage service at the Douro line since then. In 2013 the loco went to the workshops to be fitted with a new steel boiler, instead of the original copper one, so she can burn modern, cleaner oil, returning to service in 2016.
