This is my entry in the Chunk Challenge! I'd just like to say, I didn't actually remove any of the bedrock at the bottom. I only placed around it to make it look better. I also used a regular chunk as a reference, but did actually build the chunk myself, ore and all. Also, I couldn't build the entire cable in Minecraft because of the height limit. Sorry. I wanted to do something interesting for this contest. I've worked in confined building locations before, so I kind of knew what I was doing, but I had the idea that a complex could be built under the elevator, and the cross-section design I ended up doing was, in my opinion, very unique, and I think it turned out great in the end! This build also features a working lift using command blocks. Press the wooden button to toggle the floor. Also, if you don't know what a space elevator is, read the Wikipedia article or watch this YouTube video by Kurzgesagt.

---Year 2024

After building a successful space elevator on the moon, NASA, after getting funded more and more from the United States government, decides to embark on a huge mission; an advancement so great, it could revolutionize space transportation forever. Building the first, true space elevator. The official designs for the structure detailed the cable to be 37,550 kilometers above the equator, in a small region of land in Africa that the United States recently acquired two years earlier. It was set in stone that carbon nano-tubes re-enforced with cables of Kevlar extending to the ground could hold the entire structure in place. The designing phase took over two years. The government obviously knew they didn't have the resources to build it without help, so in 2026, the European Space Agency started to help and fund the project. Construction started in early 2027, with an anchor built into the ground and a complex was built surrounding the base of the cable. In about 2031, the cable was almost completed. After the cable was built, it needed to be attached to a counter-weight in orbit. A fleet of craft from both agencies attached the cable to rockets and flew upwards to the 37,550 kilometer mark. After 12 minutes of waiting, the counter-weight finally orbited into view. They had to land on top of the weight, and anchor the cable into it. After two attempts, the cable was finally secured on August 5th, 2032. Rigorous testing was needed in order for the super structure to be deemed safe for use. Weight tests, strength tests, and two mock shuttle tests were conducted, and by the year 2034, 10 years from original completion, the space elevator was ready. On March 26th, 2034, the first space craft was sent into orbit by the elevator, and then went on to successfully land on the moon. The trip took almost a month, clocking in at 26.07 days traveling at 60 kilometers an hour. After the first trip, the car was improved to travel faster at about 110 kilometers an hour, and several adjustments to the counter-weight took place. Today, the space elevator remains in almost constant use. It has done great things, such as opening space travel to average people, helping to solve the energy crisis by launching 14 solar panel satellites to orbit the Sun, strengthen the United States's relationship with Europe and European countries, and even reduce space flight casualties! The space elevator was mankind's greatest structure.

Nice and unique concept. I do expect giving the structure that the chunk is actually fully constructed with iron blocks and such and that there is no green left.

Have fun fellow contestant in the contest.
