Medieval Skin Contest:
Baldwin IV. of Jerusalem - A brief Chronicle
The year is 1161 anno Domini - the heir to King Amalric I. of Jerusalem is born. His parents name him after his uncle, Baldwin.
A few years later - Baldwin, a strong and handsome boy, injures himself at his arm while playing with his friends. Oddly he does not feel any pain, even though the wound is deep and heavily bleeding. His teacher, the famous historian William of Tyre is the first to understand the circumstances - Baldwin has leprosy, an uncurable desease back then.
Young Baldwin, his disease has not yet broken out
1174 A.D. - Amalric I. falls ill from dysentery. None of his doctors is able to save him and so he dies of fever, leaving his son Baldwin the new King of Jerusalem, at the young age of 13.
At this time, Baldwin's leprosy has already broken out at it's worst and Baldwin suffers a lot of pain from the effects of it. He begins to wear a mask and covers his whole body to hide his deformed and maimed body and face. For Baldwin is only 13, he is advocated by his fathers cousin, Raymond III. of Tripoli.
Despite his leprousy, Baldwin IV. was a good military leader and won many battles.
1179 A.D. - Baldwin comes of age and takes the rule over Jerusalem. The leader of the Saracens, Saladin, a big threat to the Jerusalem Kingdom, is preoccupied with other problems, so Baldwin has a rather peaceful reign. Nevertheless he struggles with inner enemies who try to expand their powers through intrigues and betrayal - for example his sister Sibylla.
1185 A.D. - Baldwin becomes weaker and weaker and eventually dies of his leprosy - at the age of 23.
This skin is loosely (emphasis!) based on his appearance in the motion picture "Kingdom of Heaven", directed by Ridley Scott.

Update No. 2 : 02/14/2013 9:25:19 am2/14/13
Changed mask back to bronze/copper-look, simply because I think it's more unique and gives the skin an overall better feel.
Here's the earlier version, if you liked that better:
Also, minor twitches at the mask, played around wit the 2nd hat-layer. Change is hard to notice though.
Major Update No. 1 : 02/10/2013 10:06:09 am2/10/13
As you can see in the picture above, I tried to work over my skin over and over again, making different changes. I wasn't very satisfied with the colors and several other things, so I tried to chnge those, making them more similar to the reference color. I asked for some feedback and tried to put together the best aspects of each version into the V. 2.0.
Summary of changes:
- changed mask from bronze colors to more silvery look, increased contrast to make it more shiny
- slightly changed shading of white veil
- changed coloring/shading of the torso
- minor changes at the crest
- changed leg and foot design, updated shading and colors
- slightly changed color, design and shading at the arms
Now, I'm still not completely satisfied with everything. Luckily, I still have quite some time to update this skin again. Please consider helping me to make this sin as good as possible. Do this by simply looking at the different versions above and telling me what aspects (mask, basic layout, colors, shading, details, etc.) you like and dislike about which version. Also, feel free to suggest additional ideas to improve this skin.
I was also thinking about reducing colors and giving him a completely white cloak - what do you think about that?
Thanks for your help!
