MAYA:

"I was fine. Perfectly fine. I had a life, friends, family. Everything anyone could hope for.
This is going to sound like the start of every single other apocalypse story, but it happened. I couldn't help that it happened the way it did.
They came.
It was my first night out in the wild. I had gone vegetarian, then vegan, then animal activist. Last choice I made was to live in the woods. My family was close, I thought - I was safe. Right?
All I heard was the moans. Glass is expensive to buy, and time-consuming to make, so I was blind inside my fort.
I had opened the door.

Big. Mistake.

One, then another came in. They streamed inside, groaning, reaching with bloody claws for me, their eyes alight with a fire usually meant for burning corpses.
The katana I had ordered a few years ago (I was - am - fascinated with Japanese culture. The people of old had such a cool way of defence and- Oh! I'm rambling, aren't I?) was on my wall - when I remember that moment, its the best I can do to not shudder. If I hadn't put that there, today? I'd be dead. One of them, even.

So, now, I run. I run away from my undead family. My dying friends. My disappearing life.
Food isn't hard to come by - it's just hard to digest. Beef jerky is a common find, road-trippy's dropping them, accidentally, in horror and despair of the hideous creatures in front of them. The last time I had beef was four years ago. Now, I'm eating it all the time.
My legs often hurt.
And I'm so close to giving up.
But you know what? Those creatures won't get the best of me.
Hell, they might be the ones going to heaven once I'm done with them."

Maya was a character I randomly created for the contest. Sorta like Zoey from L4D. Except not really a hardcore gamer, more an activist. x3
