The last 4 Minecraft updates have added new music, getting increasingly biome-dependent. This conflicts with one of the special things of Minecraft music; that the music would play randomly with a few exceptions. Many packs have fixed this by removing the new music, but I think that is no good since the new music is great!

My solution here is to reorganize the music into larger, mutually-exclusive pools. This keeps nostalgia in most areas without removing any songs and being more random than 1.20. Is it purely random like in beta? No. I still think it's a better compromise, though.

Here is a brief summary of the changes:
  • Overworld music (music.game) is only songs by C418. If they were in the overworld before Caves & Cliffs, they're here and nowhere else.
  • All cave biomes are currently overworld music as caves were definitely a core part of Minecraft's progression back in the day.
  • Forest-ish and desert-ish biome cues added in 1.19 and 1.20 are also overworld songs.
  • Mountain biomes (all 7, base and peak) are most of the new songs from 1.18 (except Infinite Amethyst and Wending) as well as Aerie, A Familiar Room, and Bromeliad. The mountains got a big overhaul which gives them a new lofty feeling, matching all of this new music.
  • Underwater music is still C418's Update Aquatic music from 1.13 and now also includes Firebugs and Echo in the Wind.
  • In the nether is Ancestry, along with all of the original nether songs and 1.16's soundtrack. All 1.16 songs will play in all the biomes, instead of being biome-specific. However, the warped forest is still exempt.
  • I did not touch end, boss, and credits themes.
  • The menu will no longer use songs from the latest update just because they're from the latest update, and menu songs will not be used for the world. Along with the original menu music, there is Infinite Amethyst, Wending, and Crescent Dunes, which I think sound good as menu music.
  • Creative music now has a much higher chance of playing creative songs. To the list of "creative songs" with higher chances of playing we have Labyrinthine as well. The other songs available in creative come from both the overworld and mountain music.
Warped forest music (experimental)
Warped forest is an exception to separation. If you listen closely, you can hear very faintly the menu music playing out of tune, or more rarely, a music disc. The idea is that it's a faint echo or some memory of hearing those songs. It should be quiet and unintrusive so you barely hear it. This is still experimental (although I will listen to feedback on anything), so I'd love to hear a comment about how the volume and pitch works out! =]

That's all. Enjoy! I hope you give this pack a try. =] I think Lena's music is good, although it's sometimes more Lena than people want. That's why she gets the beautiful mountains as the location of her banishment!

Do not reupload in any capacity.

THIS PACK DOESN'T CHANGE THE ACTUAL MUSIC! Don't be confused! ^-^

Version for 1.20.4 : by blank3times 12/27/2023 4:27:25 pmDec 27th, 2023

Updated to 1.20.3+, which is now incompatible with the 1.20-1.20.2 version due to some changes with C418 music. (You can still download the 1.20 version by clicking the download link.)
---
  • Updated the names of C418's pre-1.13 tracks to be their actual names (this is a change that wasn't on the 1.20.3 changelog afaik; thanks minecraft.wiki!)
    • e.g., calm3 -> sweden
  • Adjusted the volume and pitch of the warped forest feature, and changed it to include all music discs (although they play rarely)

So as I understand, Microsoft has slowly been phasing out C418's Music due to legal issues. Some say that they are trying to wean us off of it so they can only use music from the newer creators that sell their music fully to Microsoft/Mojang. So, what you did was reset this and fully randomize the track playlist like how it used to be.

I have seen various other resource packs that just fully remove the new music, however I actually enjoy most of it. But repeating the same Lena Raine songs over and over gets tiring when I remember the nostalgia of the OG music. Thank you for doing this while including the new songs, its as if this is how the game should be. What are your plans for the future of this pack?

Glad you like the idea and theory! I plan to keep updating this every update, moving any new music (they seem to think that music and a disc are a requirement for an update for some reason which imo is taking the wow factor out) to somewhere (mountains, water nether, creative, or menu) as I have done so far, as well as delegating music to any new biome events they add. =]

Hi!

Lately, Minecraft has been adding unique music to different biomes (what you think is a biome is a biome) and most of them will be the same. Biome cues are what I'm calling sets of music (pretty sure the real term is 'sound event') that play in one or more specific biomes in the game. I'm taking a bunch of those and making them look the same. When the game needs music, it'll look at the biome you're in (or other special cases like underwater and credits) and then choose a music event for it. Not all biomes have their own one, in which case there is a default music selection (thankfully, in my context).

I don't know how Terralith handles its own biomes, but unless they have their own specified custom music selection then it will be one of the ones in this pack (probably the c418 music). This is a vanilla pack, so it's not designed to affect Terralith, but it shouldn't break and might make changes.

I'm not sure that clears much up, so I'm down to have some dialogue. I'm not completely sure what usage of 'biome' ends up being confusing and that may be why it's confusing in the first place. =]

No, the ocean music in this case will stay in the ocean/underwater because I feel it's different enough. ^-^
