The crackling noise of my headset trying to receive a signal response woke me up, faintly hearing "John, come in!" consistently.
I finally came to pick up the headset and respond firmly "Aye General?". He commanded me to check out Facility 19, said there was a fatal error with the generator there. Thermal suit on, and my engineering equipment, I took the airplane to Facility 19, the remainder of the trip I had to walk through a treacherous blizzard. Moments later I arrived at the reinforced steel doors. The whole facility was run by Eve, a custom program revamped every day to suit the facilities needs. "Eve, open main gate, please!"
"Please insert your ID card so I may analyze your data!"
Minutes went by until I heard my name being called out, "Welcome to Facility 19, John Anderson!"
The reinforced steel gates opened and I continued into what used to be a research laboratory. "Eve, is there a backup generator, just enough to power all the lights?", "Yes John, would you like me to start it up?".
"Yes, if you may."
Several thumps as the large lights flickered on.
"Eve, can you locate the main generator for me?"
"Walk down hallway 3, turn left until you reach laboratory room 13." "Thank you, Eve."
I continued down hallway 3 and turned left at the laboratory room labelled 13. I came up to a large vault, with several authentication devices, a retina eye scan, thumb print scan and a keypad device. All 3 successfully worked with the backup generators power and I observed the main generator.
"Eve, there's nothing wrong with this generator. General said it was a fatal error."
"John, may I suggest looking in the control computer?"
"Good idea Eve."
I logged onto the central computer hub and looked at the logs.
[13/12/2039] > Generator was manually shut off.
"Eve, this generator was manually shut off..."
There was no response until I ran down to the main doors.
"Where are you going John?"
"EVE! HOW MANY ENGINEERS WERE HERE BEFORE ME?!"
"John, you are engineer #139."
"Eve, take me to the camera monitors, asap."
I spectated the camera monitor viewing the main door area, I saw engineers come in, but none go out.
"Where are all the engineers Eve? I haven't seen a single one leave this corroded piece of shi..."
A few seconds before every light in the facility shut off, I saw started feeling woozy, as if I had been gassed.
"Goodbye John."
