Hello Planet Minecraft!
I decided to give how I deal with my crappy computer while playing Minecraft. First i have a Windows XP, HP Mini, 32 bit and 0.98 GB of ram. Pretty crap huh? Well, Minecraft works fine for me.
1) Download Optifine!
Optifine is a mod that takes a while to update to a new Minecraft version, but I can deal with that. Optifine is better than Superman when you are enjoying some Minecraft. Optifine boosts your fps (Frames Per Second) which is a great place to start.
2) Put render distance to tiny!
You don't necessarily have to do this depending on your computer. Normal or short distance works fine for me sometimes so you can deal with that. If you are bothered you can't see things far away, download Rei's Minimap to get a good view of your world.
3) Use 16x16!
Don't use HD Texture Packs. Optifine let's you use them, but don't. They can make your computer lag like hell! You don't want that. Also, simple texture packs do not help boost frame rates, so just go with default.
4) Set chunk loading to Multi-Core!
Optifine let's you do this, so use it. It helps a lot. I'm not sure why, but it is amazing for my stupid computer.
5) Buy new ram if needed!
Buying ram is a good idea if you have less then 1 GB of ram. Minecraft needs at least 1 GB so doing this might help a lot. Installing a ram might be confusing so google some ways on how to. You should find rams easily at a computer store.
6) Fiddle with options!
You might want to test stuff, like turn off clouds, turn off fog and weather. You might try to make your gui scale small. Whatever it is just try out stuff. You should always fiddle with Video Settings since that is what makes your Minecraft experience different. Maybe download newest version of Java. It is your computer not mine.
7) Get a new computer!
Don't do this first because computers are pretty expensive. Try other options first then by a new computer if it still doesn't work. Buy a computer that is decent like:
Windows 7
64 bit
16 GB ram
8) Close other programs! by bob4444444444
First request! So bob4444444444 wanted me to put in to close all other windows. Having other programs on your computer might make your Minecraft lag quite a bit. SO it is a good idea to only keep 1 window open.
FAQ:
What if you aren't a master computer geek?
I only know basic computer stuff too. You don't have to know much. just learn how to download a mod and little basic stuff.
Should I backup my jar before I download a mod?
Yes, yes you should. I try to backup my world, jar and whatnot every week, but try what works for you.
What if this didn't work for me?
Then, I apologize. This doesn't work for every PC. It did for mine but maybe not yours.
I hope you all learnt something and this helped you! This is only my way and there might be better ones out there! I put a lot of effort into this!
