It comes to mind very often, that I just can't think of anything to write about here on PMC. I have the will and the want to right, but nothing comes to mind (nothing minecraft related anyways). I just want to right an awesome blog for everybody to read, but writer's block. So, I guess I come today with topic suggestions for all those aspiring writers out there.
What to avoid.
There are plenty of topics out there better left untouched, or that have just been touched too much(now that just sounds wrong XD). I would avoid such controversial topics such as;Religion,Politics,Suicide, Gay marriage. These things are A. Controversial, and as awesome ascontroversialtopics can be, there will always be those people who are ignorant on the topic, or are just too stubborn to see it fromanotherlight, and B. That's not minecraft related anyways.
Topics that have been overused. Teen skins and how bad they are. Newcomers into mincraft or PMC, Minecraft Trivia, Treat people with respect (good topic, just overdone), How to get popular on PMC, and interviews( I know these have their own section but nonetheless they are a waste of good space on the Pop Reel)* These topics are just overdone and I'm just sick of seeing them in the Pop Reel.
*Interviews can be done well when the questions asked areinformativeand thought provoking, but not more why did you start playing Minecraft questions.
What are some good topics then?
That is a great question, random reader. Topics should be written on things that are thought provoking or even comical. There are 5 main reasons I see to write a blog, 1. To propose your opinions on a topic and share them with those around you. 2. Toentertainyour audience with a comical piece of literature. 3. To promote either artwork or something in which you have used (you could instead complain about something you used aka review) 4. To teach the general public something they were previously ignorant about. (Rememberignoranceisn't stupidity) 5. To share your mincraft related stories.
Now that you know the right reasons to right a blog lets tackle number one. You want to right a thought provoking and informative piece on a subject. A few ways to figure out a good topic here are; Browse PMC and the chat, look for things you see that you might agree or disagree with. Lets say you think that you should be able to advertise servers in the main chat just like everybody else does. Make a blog that describes your point and illustrates your opinion.
Also another good way to come up with topics is just to ask yourself why you play minecraft, your answers may lead you to topics you feel strongly about. Like for instance you only play minecraft for the servers. You could write an article about how minecraft brings people from all cultures together or that it is a great way to socialize and break through your shell. Just use things about yourself to generate topics, the littlest things can turn into the best ideas.
#2: To be comical, as far as personalexperiencewith this, I have very little. I know though that it is often best to pick a topic that is being talked about, maybe even overused and write it from a comical light. Like a great example is -Rusty-'s blog on beingunoriginal(link in theadditionalcredit below) It talks about using a potion to help make sure you are unoriginal in your works, if you haven't read it it is a great read, and is a great example of this type of writing.
#3 This one is self-explanatory, if you create artworks then you can create a blog to help promote them. (artworks include videos as well or other minecraft creations). The second part of this is reviews, which again is pretty simple take a mod or texture pack and make a review of it. Just make sure you arein-depthin your review and don't just either praise it or hate on it, tell both sides of the story.
#4 One that again I'm notfamiliarwith one as much. However, just either take from personal knowledge something awesome you know how to do and teach it to everyone. Or take knowledge that some know, but most do not and make it public. An example would be to create a blog teaching people good ways to create blogs (woah, I think I just broke the fourth wall)
#5 Ah stories, my favorite. Stories are a complicated work, you must have characters in mind, setting, and plots, but in the end they can become amazing things. A few notes on stories, the best way to generate story ideas is just to take them from personal life, if you just lost a friend to cancer write about a tragic story of two best friends. If you just went mountain climbing for the first time, write about one person's struggle to climb some great mountain. If your life isn't as exciting, write about how the hot dog you ate the other day gave you superpowers and the adventures you have with that. Stories are the easiest things to come up with ideas for, it is so easy to draw from your life and make awesome stories. Another quick note, remember that one whole story has to be posted on one blog, you can do it in parts but you have to update the blog instead of creating a new one (silly I know) and all stories have to be minecraft related.
