The Mind of Mining

"Hello?" Jack mumbled. I'm just scaring myself, He thought. Those sounds are just my imagination. Not long after that very moment, he groaned at the last remains of his broken iron pickaxe. Jack turned away and smacked his head against a wooden fence hanging above him. "Ouch!" he cried, and then realised what he had come across. "Huh? I didn't build that!" His eyes were blurry, and he couldn't see properly. Jack put his palm to his forehead, and felt that it was uneven. Something black and furry was on the wall, it had eight dark blue spikes hanging out of its body. Jack tried to get to his feet, but the pain was too much for his body to hold, so when he stood up, he collapsed back on the floor. The last thing he knew was that the creature pounced onto him.

His eyes were stuck, and he couldn't move. Jack could feel many little creatures beneath him were carrying him deeper into the mine. He was trapped inside a sticky silk, but he managed to rip a hole with his teeth to speak. "Let me go!" He yelled at the top of his voice. But all he heard as a response was some ear-bursting screaching, and then the creatures crawled faster. He was getting his strength back now, and was able to wriggle his fingers enough to break the silk near his hands. He slowly peeled the silk off his arms, and then ripped off the rest off his face. "Spiders! I hate spiders!" Screamed Jack, who was arachnophobic. The thought of the animal's nippers ripping through his flesh made him peel the silk-or web-off his body at a faster pace. When it was all off, he jumped to his feet and ran in the opposite direction, jumping over overgrown roots and hitting vines out of his way. It wasn't long before he realised that the land he was running through was a vast jungle, and had many animals, difficult to see at the pace of his running. Up ahead he could see lights, and figured it was his house. There was a forest filled with trees, and it was snowing. Jack could hear cows and pigs getting attacked in the distance. He was sprinting like the wind, but everything seemed quite and slow, and finally when he tried to go faster, he fell to the ground.

His father was with him. "Jack," he said happily. "Wake up. Wake up Jack. Come on. They're coming. Wake up." Jack opened his eyes, and he realised that he was floating on a pink, fluffy cloud. Pigs with delicate, golden wings hovered above him in the air. Suddenly, Jack's father wasn't sounding so happy. "Jack!" He yelled, and kept on looking in the distance behind him. He started shaking Jack's shoulder. "Quick! Jack! Wake up! They're coming!" His father's hair was growing long, and his tone of voice turning high. He was skinny, and that was when Jack noticed that his dad wasn't a man anymore. Infact, it wasn't his dad. Jack wasn't even sitting on a cloud anymore, he was in a forest, and the pigs were spiders, all around.

"Jack! Get up now! Quickly, they're are coming!" The girl was screaming at the top of her voice.

"Run! Jack!" She slapped Jack across the face, and he woke with a start.

"Annie?" Jack exclaimed.

"Quick! Run! They're right behind you!" But she didn't need to finish her sentence, all the screaching coming from behind was enough to get Jack's heart pumping fast. Annie suddenly stopped, and shrieked, "It's a river! We can't cross it! It's too rapid for us!"

Jack looked up and down the river, but no sign of help. Suddenly, he heard a voice singing, which sounded a bit Irish.

"How much wood could a Woodchuck Chuck if a Woodcuck could Chuck wood?"

Jack and Annie looked both ways of the river again, and saw a man with a long beard, holding an axe over his shoulder. "Uncle Kurt!" Shouted Jack. "Run! The spider's are coming!" Uncle Kurt put his hand to his ear. "Oh herllo Jarck, herllo Arnnie! Noice noight foor a chopper, eh? And, what was thart you said?"

Jack hesitated. "The spider's ar-" But the rest of his sentence was drained out by the sound of an Irish man screaming, and lot's of nipper's ripping flesh. Jack and Annie looked away, and decided to follow the river in the oppisite direction of the spiders.
