Well, it's been three months since I posted anything, so I have decided to upload this short story. It is based in the same universe as Nimrod, I hope you enjoy!

The Story

The U.S.S Validity swam in the immense darkness, known as space, with great grace. She was grey and shaped like an arrowhead, with large, thin pinions sprouting out of the arrows ends. Her slender, in-line bridge located at but a mere few meters from her needle-like tip. The bridge was filled by officers- human officers; they were all dressed formally, all in their dark-as coal, shoulder capped jackets with buttons up, all with their sleek, low trousers as black, if not darker, as their jackets. One stood out, he wore many medals on his left breast. It was clear to see that he was the captain, and the others lieutenants and commanders. He had blonde hair and a short beard. His eyes were keen but relaxed, as so was his posture in the command chair. The ship was sailing almost directly at the orange star, banked enough however as to soar past and be pulled round by the stars vast gravity. The crew stood alert as they neared the star.

The Validity was now in touching distance. The star threw tantrums, spewing out huge flares of fire as it did. They loomed around the ship, some arched over her. The ship’s engineering department were charging about to keep her shields at sufficient strength as to not get the ship destroyed by the flames being ejected at phenomenal rates and strength. In the brief blink of an eye, disaster presented itself. A blinding tower of flame sprang up right in front of the ship. The ship slammed right into the orange blaze with a frightful whizz like a mighty wave. The shields dropped from being sufficient to being almost non-existent in a matter of mere seconds! The ship swung about violently like a giddy toddler launching a doll down after it was just thrown up. Its port engine, and the most of that side, was ripped off.
“Raise bulkheads!” Commanded a dazed Captain Alexander Boyd.
“Yes, captain!” Answered a, unsurprisingly, startled Sophie Emend. The majority of the far port bulkheads slammed shut, the closest areas to them where charred and scattered to such a great extent that they looked more like a smoking fireplace than a furnished corridor. Dozens of crew members who were tragically caught in the port-side of the ship were flung into the dark abyss where they eyes where gouged out, their blood veins blistered, boiled and popped and lungs were torn inside out. Their bodies tumbled down lower and lower, closer and closer to the stars raging, fiery ocean. The carcasses turned black with soot before crumbling away like stirred up dust.

The U.S.S Validity roared out past the star, her engines screaming in pain. She automatically let out a distress signal emanating and rippling throughout space in the hope of a nearby human ship receiving it and coming to rescue the Validity’s crew.

Meanwhile, around a planet gleaming with swampy landscapes like they were done with a spray can, a Hurconicanial ship orbited like a squirrel in a tree. A Hurconicanial resembles a man with a large, almost squid-like nose hiding a large predatory mouth. The creatures’ nostrils are located on the far sides of the nose, making them almost invisible from the front. It had long, rope like hair and silted pupils too along with sand-coloured skin. The ship looked a bit like a crab’s claw with two large jet engines sprouting from its sides. Lasers were hidden through long tubes leaving a protrusion in the claws inside. The bridge was like a crescent, sitting around the claw’s rear inside with stripe-like windows lining the crescent’s front. The bridge’s floor was just like marble, controls positioned next to the windows and dim lights lining where windows did not: any shadow was long and stretched.
“Filak Turnk! Reik Human Voliank!” Let out a Hurconicanial with a great roar. Streams of red and green combined light flowed from the huge engines as the ship sped off towards the U.S.S. Validity.

“Incoming ship Sir!” Stated Jacob Kerry with excitement.
“Prepare to welcome them with hospitality,” Replied Alexander Boyd intently, not bothering to command them to raise their weakened shields or power weapons. Suddenly the crab claw-like Hurconicanial warship crashed into view, its laser portholes glowing and shimmering a dark green. Within seconds, dozens of dark, vibrant green beams smashed into the Validity’s silvery hull, smashing up all that was of the human spaceship.
