Well if you turned  bonus chests on, then you can take out whats in the chest and start there. But if not, go to the closest tree and punch it down. Sounds painful! Well now you press the E key and put all the wood in the crafting table. You will get 4 oak wood for every wood you picked up. Now put 4 Oak wood planks in a square to make a crafting table. Place it down. Well now you have to make a axe for more wood. But before that, put two wood in a stick formation to get 4 sticks. You need sticks to make Tools. So now for a axe, put two sticks like you did for the wood and then 3 wood like in the picture. The axe is first, the Sword is Seccond, the Picaxe is third, The shovel  is fourth, And the hoe is the fith. The picaxe is used for mining and as you go through the game, this tool will be your best friend when mining. The hoe is used to farm, all you have to do is right click on your mouse and you've farmed a piece of dirt. you can put multiple types of farming items, like seeds, (from grass), pumpkin seeds, (from pumpkins of course), Melon seeds, (from melons), and more! the axe of course, is used for cutting trees down, and the shovel is used for removing stuff like dirt and gravel very quickly.
