Wolves were original, which means it was like in the 5.4 update. Ever since they where added nothing changed. Yea maybe a slight collar color change but not the wolves themselves. I say stand up for them! What do you think?

Wolves are still good, one of my friends on a Realm has ~20+ and whatever hits you dies, it's honestly hilarious. That being said, maybe they could use a small update, but I think caves, the Nether, and combat should be prioritized.

I agree, seems like wolves have been left behind despite there being so much potential.

Some new skins for wolves would be nice. Like a snow wolf when you're in the snowy biome.

Perhaps some new mechanics with regards to customizing your wolf companion would also be nice.

Some sort of alternate skins (à la cats) would not surprise me… easy to do, hard to foul up, gives the marketing some bells and whistles to tout.

Something more substansive (eg multiple models representing different breeds/species or a behavioral radiation to add setters, pointers, etc) seem far less likely.

Other potential additions (not expected to have a snowflake's chance on Phlegethon):
patternable fur (applied via banners)
barding
