I am an operator for an online server and I recently thought about changing my name, but in doing so will this cause me to lose my op status due to a name difference?
I'm not sure if ops are validated with their username or uuid.

No, minecraft doesn’t use names they use your UUID. Every minecraft account has a unique UUID. So if you change your name you will still have OP status, and anyone who changes to your old name will not be OP.
