My daughter would like to add one of her friends to her single player world, and apparently there's a way - can anyone here explain to me how I set it up?

If they are both playing it on the same internet as in they are both playing it in the same house your daughter can click open to LAN and it will appear in her friends multiplayer games to join.
Otherwise you'll have to set up a server and put her map save onto it
