Linux and Java

I have been told of Minecraft so many times now to update Java on it to Java oracle 8 and i have tried but i can't figure out how to do it for Linux, it only happens when i try to open a mod like the Pixelmon mod and at the moment i am using Java 7 and Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon 64 bit.

Same code on Linux Mint, and any other Debian derivative.

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
works for me.

That's for ubuntu.... I use ubuntu for my servers, not sure what it is for linux mint...
