Hi,
So every time I try start minecraft I get an error saying i need to update my video drivers. I have followed several online tutorials attempting to do this. Yet I still get the same error message. I know this laptop can run minecraft because I used to play it until the laptop was wiped recently.
So my computer says that I have a Standard VGA graphics adapter.
But it actually says on the machine itself it has a NVIDIA Geforce 8400M GT GPU
Crash code
I don't really know much about this sort of thing evidently, so help would be greatly appreciated

There should be a gaphics card info on your properties, locate it and right click (should include a update button ) hit update. If u dnt have a vid card there will be a GPU instead of video card. Do the same process as above

It tells me I have the latest update

My comp has no graphics card so I cannot really help D:

Are you sure you don't have a dedicated graphics card?
Are there multiple display ports on your laptop?
Device manager > display adapters, what do you see there?

Nope just says a standard vga graphics adapter

Strange, that's the kind of thing i'd expect this to cause this error.
Just try a force update on your minecraft client OR just delete the contents of:
C:\Users\[yourusername]\appdata\roaming\.minecraft
Doing either of these will force the launcher to re-download the game, that may work.

I had the same problem and I dont think you actually need to update your video card drivers.
What you should do is:
Right click on desktop and click properties
Go to Settings bar and click advanced
Then click the Troubleshoot bar
You will see a meter gauge thingy and move it to the third slot.
This happens to alot of people and this is the solution!
Hope it works for you!
