I am wondering if there is a way or if there is a plugin to turn nether portal noises on or off. I've read some things, but I haven't found anything conclusive.
I'm fairly certain its client side not server side. You need a client mod not a server plugin.
The server isn't sending sounds to your client. The client is checking for portal blocks and saying "there's a portal block there so make the noise" - basically.
Ah, so basically, it isn't possible to make a plugin like that. Thanks for the info.

I have been successful at deleting certain sounds from my minecraft config however this won't help if your on a server.
What's the difference between single player and a server, Alex?
You can modify your client. But on a server you can't modify the server (Unless you have perms)
I'm the owner of the server, so I have perms. There is one world in particular where I want all the nether portals to have no noise. Is there a way to directly modify that world on the server so that no nether portals make noise? Or, if that isn't possible, could I download the world with filezilla into a singleplayer world, alter it so that nether portals are silent, and then upload it back to my server?
Nope, that's impossible. Maybe plugins could silence them... but it is impossible for you to make those nether portals silent to everyone on the server.
Ah ok. I have searched for a plugin that would silence nether portals, but I haven't found one. I asked someone who makes plugins on my server if it would be possible to make a plugin that silences nether portals in a world or just certain nether portals and he said he didn't think so. But, he is relatively new at making plugins and doesn't have a whole lot of experience. So, do you think that a plugin could be made that disables the noise?
