whenever I'm using a 1.6.4 mod, before the game even starts showing the "Mojang" logo, it closes. I have always been able to use a 1.6.4 mod before without any bugs/problems.

It's probably an issue with the version of Forge you have running in your 1.6.4 profile (I assume you're using Forge?).
