Follow up question, how can I rotate the blocks? (no animation needed)

I would actually recommend using {NoGravity:1b} falling block (sand) entities for this, and teleporting them relative to the player. When they reach the ground, remove the NoGravity tag, fill empty space with barriers, and let them place themselves naturally. Then, just remove the barriers summon the next brick full of falling blocks

What I'd do is have armour stands that create new blocks at their location every time they move and destroy the blocks behind them.
