For some odd reason recently whenever I have attempted to use a hopper clock the comparator destroys itself due to Redstone wire being next to it. I'm not certain why this occurring as it should not. So is it that I'm doing something incorrect or is it simply a glitch?

Have you tried turning the repeater counter clockwise?

When does it actually get destroyed? When you place it, or while the mechanism is being used? I've noticed that for some reason when you try to put repeaters or comparators under a block like that they sometimes immediately disappear, as if you did nothing. If this is the case, try destroying the block above it and place it then.
