I am looking to start a towny minecraft server with minigames and want around 50 slots. Any experienced server owners recommend any hosts and know what GB RAM i should get?

You need to have a 5gb server for a good start

Depends on how intensive your plugins are and how many people you will actually expect to start off with. Chances are, 50 simply won't happen, so unless you get a startup discount, I believe anything over 4GB is overkill. A server can be surprisingly robust on much less, provided you have a host that gives you proper resources in other areas (a good server CPU, fast drive, etc). There's really more than just RAM to consider if you want to do it right, and if you find a host that easily lets you scale up your hardware based on population (thus keeping costs down), you'll be set for the beginning.

If you end up being unable to find a host that'll let you scale up as I state above, 6-8 gigs is good to start. Again, this is with the idea that your plugins will not all be running at the same time (all minigames with big arenas and events) and that you will end up growing your population, not starting with 50, 20 or even 10 dedicated players at most times of day.

I abstain from listing hosts as that's a brilliant way for these threads to end up locked. Commercial advertising rules and all that.

I suggest as much as possible, around 32 GB should be a good starting point imo, it always depends on how heavy the minigames and all the other stuff are

For a starting server that has made no indication of being super ambitious in the beginning (at its starting point), this is extremely overkill not to mention a wallet killer unless the OP simply has no financial concerns, a rarity in the MC community.
