  I used to say the same thing, but recently I rewatched the show and noticed some things. There's actually a scene where Iroh redirects a lightning bolt from the sky in season 1. You also have to wonder how on earth Zuko thought he would be able to redirect lightning from the sky in that one scene. But I dunno. Just seems a bit too crazy to believe for me. I guess it's wouldn't be the craziest thing, since he's reacted to incoming arrows before.

  Nah not just you, I have been thinking about this for probably a year and my conclusion was just that he has Lightning fast reaction speeds not normal speeds and that the lightning that Firebenders make is slower too. Ofc I could be wrong

  I think Fire bender lightning might be a lot slower than real lightning.
  In the gifs it looks like that anyway. I feel like real lightning is faster.
  Probably just me though.
