Help/JavaEdition Why is My Server Not Growing? (0-1 Player On a Day)

You were gone when you asks stuffs on chat. Considering it is not about retention rate but more of getting people to visit.. I see your pmc page and can see how much glaring problems it have:
1. The first image in the banner is not even clear what it is. I do see it is grass blocks with small people in them but in that kind of size, there is nothing interesting there.
2. The banner text do not tell anything of what avrona world offers to players to test.
3. The builds displayed on the screenshots are not interesting.
4. Description text cluttered into a single paragraph with bad spelling. I can understand the difficulty of English, I got that too. But when I am going to post a text that will be the first thing my players going to see, I make sure others proof-read for me.
5. Description text doesn't sound interesting. It need better word play to describe the features.
6. The "Note: The server is not always on." surely going to turn down many. If you really can't have it 24/7, at very least state when the server is on. If server only available for 1-2 hours, forget it and get real life friends to play in it instead.
7. Keep bumping and voting your own server everyday, on the same time it online.
8. Check the top 10-100 servers on PMC, see how they do theirs server descriptions and learn from them.
9. server's website not even on the pmc page or ANYWHERE.

Website's feedbacks:
1. Wordings, please do get a help!
2. Include online status on website, considering it is not 24/7
3. That 'new' parkour you showed looks really boring mechanic wise, bland build wise. Go play parkour maps and improve it?

Video feedback:
1. Seriously, need to improve those builds.
2. Why video is not in pmc page?
3. The cinematographer needs to stop goes through block and make the video annoyingly flicker.

Also adding you DO need staffs even if they are not for making sure people do not break rules. They are there to make the server looks welcoming and filled with people.

Serious side, when I was a kid probably my biggest dream was being a scientist that make monsters to keep humans in check. Ya know, like guarding forests or eat soldiers, or at least become one humanity fight off instead themselves.

After a certain event, I wanted to tell my story to the whole world. Granted, I told it to many and many feels inspired, sad, relieved of it... but nowhere I can get to the 'world' I am imagining of. And I am in doubt too how would I end it. This is the story anyway: http://imgur.com/a/KgcxH

Nowadays, I have lower my expectations and I just want to make the rp server right, so I can call it my home.

DystopiaWhat the vast majority of the community continues to fail to understand is this is no longer about just P2W, and I'm trying my best not to sound all "conspiracy theory-like", but blocking things like voting, server boosts, and various mechanics that don't really help you "win" the game is not about P2W, but really just trying to cut down on the number of larger Minecraft servers for the benefit of Realms.

Voting actually even more important for poor men or small servers... as these are cheapest way to get noticed..

Hi,

Are you sure you can just put all servers on this kind of category? Wynncraft for example have like 50 servers, that is 2500$ just for the server hosting, not accumulating for possible forum, website, builds, and staffs. Not to mention ads cost, youtuber cost, etc. OLD time ago a server I play with is running theirs own box with high speed internet that somehow goes almost $1000 a month or something just for the server expenses alone... like bandwidth and electrical bill.

Not that I am saying that they are the only way to run big servers or if they are wrong or right. I personally rather not go that way. Albeit that, I know I counted I have spent almost $200 in 3 months for setting up my server and purchasing things.

Yet in one other way you are correct, they are aiming more than $2000, they are aiming to make a living or already make a living and want to stay that way. No matter that it is probably more make sense and better if they make theirs own game and monetize those, having theirs living suddenly turned do make them angry.

I believe you talking of my comment. There is discussion in spigot from server owners who get the chance to fix their servers with mojang, and they collect what do and do not allowed.. it seems somehow you can't give non cosmetic as vote rewards based on those. Dunno how much grain of truth I will take from it but I am worried.

Most people do not donate unless they really need it, some servers get so big theirs cost are above $2000 mark. Small servers could survive with EULA, big ones thought is questionable, especially if theirs gameplay dynamic is empowered by the rank and such you find on donation. These big servers usually also aim for profit as they have dedicated theirs life to maintain theirs server... so the server handling is theirs JOB not just hobby.

Then mojang also made that VOTING get same treatment with donating, so you can't say.. get diamond for voting anymore. This, affect all servers big and small. I hate this voting rule.

But did you know that Niantic.Inc is collecting your information? Basically, you might use your Google Account to sign in. Normally, i you use this, they'll be taking your information. This information includes but not limited to your Location, Phone Number, Google+ circles and alternate accounts (if hooked with).

Most services do this. Google itself is the biggest 'offender'. How do you think they can sell ads so well? cause they track your browsing behaviour.


Most people don't follow this, just like the good old Wii Remote video when it hits your TV. I thought Pokemon GO would be a fun game where you can exercise more, meet new friends and battle each other, but actually, it's bad.

There is no stopping of people get distracted with anything. The same 'hype' of people get accidents because X has been a long standing media blast.. start with the birth of cellphone and then when text messaging comes in. If you are distracted, you are distracted, no blaming what you use to get distracted.


My most concern: Nicknames.
Entering a name close to your social accounts can leave a person messaging you where you live. It can also lead into real life battles.

You are a lot more vulnerable to this for every message you put in the internet. A single google can reveal a lot of someone.

hi moralous! Glad to see another vet around . I only remember vaguely how do I start but it was 'alpha' and 'first time finding water can flow and it is fun' in creative. I believe, at that time, it is the water that tells me minecraft is more than digital lego.

I have been on and off minecraft too, started in creative (that was free back then), then quit after bored with water.

A year or so later purchased survival after seeing minecart video (omg rollercoaster!), erased many worlds until I got one that is nice and created a restaurant, installed mods, found mcedit (made my first dragon, which was featured in yogcast), found community, multiplayer survival, got into 'end game' that I start multiplayer creative making giant dragons, invited to voxelbox and see awesome people with awesome builds, make achievements in voxelbox, then retired after achieved worked with yogcast and captainsparklez.

Back again, I found that voxelbox server no longer there, I wander to find a 'home'. Somehow got lost to a roleplay server, it was homey, until for some unfortunate circumstances they are kinda 'dying' in my view. So I go make my own with friends, and that is currently I am doing xD ...

I don't see how playing in pc lower your vision more than on ps2/ps3, they all the same. The question is more of how much is the distance between your eyes and monitor/tv and the brightness of the monitor.

As for carpal tunnel, unless you play minecraft for more than 8+ hours nonstop everyday, it is unlikely to happens, so it is more to blame your habit. I know, I am a graphic designer, carpal tunnels is around my circle of artists that draw a lot.

B: I believe if you are getting used to wasd and mouse, you can build stuff faster.. in addition with the plugins like voxelsniper and mcedit, you can make gigantic stuffs shown on this site. Sure, you can too on console, but it seems slow tbh.
C: As for mods, ftb pack is great if you have decent computer or play pixelmon online. Texture pack I love conquest.

People calling him genius probably stress him more as he 'only' make a single super successful game and a tons of flops. After minecraft tho, its like people flocking to whatever he made, even if it just crappy for-fun ludum dare entry. It's like people thinks everything he touches will turn to gold and that expectation kind of annoying?

But that is my assumption on how he said that.... like.. a year ago. This topic is outdated but still I feel compeled to reply.

Sounds like something open for roleplay, In my server (WIP) three staffs are playing gods. Players can donate tokens to these gods to empower them, in return they grant global bonus. Beside that, the gods do interact especially to enforce rules and there are god and races based artifacts that players can sought to after them in events.

Just saying, it is a good idea.

its not the mediafire that have virus, it is the questionable items you download.

You could use dropbox or have your own ftp.
