Studnicky,
I'm going to start my point with this: What, in essence, is PMC? It is a 'Creative Community Fansite.'.
Planet Minecraft is very successful in that it has a very large community, and within this community, there is a lot of talent. You know this.
This talent ranges from Great Builders and natural artists, to well-developing writers.
In my opinion, the way that PMC is set up, embraces this talent, welcomes it, and through support and feedback from friends, helps this talent to grow. That is something very, very rare in Web-based communities in the modern age. All the different sections, be it skins, projects, blogs, allow the people to share their work, and through that, they develop.
Where can users showcase their blog submissions in a place where they can receive feedback and improve? The blogs section.
But hold on - Couldn't they just show their submission inside the Forums?
The answer is yes, yes they could? But why would (PMC User) post his/her piece of artwork on a thread, when he/she can show of his/her work in the blogs section, completely customise their work with presentational devices, receive a wider audience, and actually be rewarded for their efforts in the form of EXP?
Sure, they CAN post it in the forums, but far less people use the forums than use the other site sections when looking for something like art. If you're releasing your product in a place which has hardly any of their target audience in it, then inevitably, your product will not do well.
There's a phrase that I can relate to this: "If it isn't broken, don't fix it.".
There is no NEED to remove the blogs section from the site. The good points about this section far outweigh the bad, and by removing the section completely, it is more likely to create more trouble than what it will prevent.
Furthermore, if you have a problem with the quality of submissions in the blog section, you have the power to confront these issues. Correct me if I'm wrong, but dealing with those issues is one of your roles, and if you find the number of complaints is overwhelming, a pain or hassle to you, then maybe there should be more Moderators introduced to help overcome the problem.
Finally, removing the blogs section may cause this site, to lose members who have gained good reputations through good quality work in that section, possibly causing upset and a dent in PMC's unique, thriving community.
Think about it: How many people will removing the blogs section help? Ten? Fifty? More than a hundred?
I see no reason to remove blogs completely, and I'm sure my view on this is shared by many others.
