Pikmin is essentially a puzzle game. There are 7 Pikmin, 5 are Passive and will be partners, 1 is Neutral and can be tamed (This kind comes in groups and you must kill its leader to tame them) and 1 is Hostile (It can be hypnotized by a kind of Spore and will fight with your other Pikmin)
The story is that one day, Captain Olimar from planet Hocotate crash landed on a Distant Planet believed to be Earth. He befriended the Pikmin on this planet and gathered the parts for his ship, but he only had 30 days to collect all the parts. Once he found 29 parts of the ship, his ship had access to The Final Trial, a far off Island where the 30th ship part lay. Olimar and the Pikmin trudged through the Final Trial only to come face to face with the strongest monster on this planet, Emperor Bulblax. After defeating the overgrown Grub-Dog, he found the 30th ship part, known as the Secret Safe. Olimar waved good-bye to the Pikmin and blasted off back to Planet Hocotate using his ship, the Dolphin.
As soon as he returned, the company Olimar worked for known as Hocotate Freight, had a dept of 10,100 Pokos because a certain worker named Louie was on a mission to ship I think 10,000 Pik-Pik Carrots but then while he was flying his ship, a Ravenous Space Bunny ate all the Carrots, causing a dept. (Pokos are the currency system of Planet Hocotate) Olimar suddenly drops a bottle cap he picked up from the Distant Planet and was going to give to his son, Sagittarius, as a gift. The President of Hocotate Freight then realizes the bottle cap had a value of 100 Pokos, dropping the dept from 10,100 to 10,000. The president sends Olimar and Louie back to the planet and repays the dept using Pikmin to help salvage, find, fight for, and dig up treasure. When Olimar blasts from the planet again, he realizes Louie isn't in the Cockpit with him!
