DRINK or DIE - the hydration mod!
version 1.0.2 - for Minecraft 1.4.6.


This is a server multiplayer mod for a bukkit SpoutPlugin server. Requires Spoutcraft (for clients) in order to function correclty (and for the players to see the custom GUI).

This mod adds another dimension to your Minecraft experience on your survival server. In addition to avoiding death from starvation you will also have to avoid dying from dehydration. So keep that leather pouch with you at all times to combat thirst! If you're not careful and you become dehydrated, you will start hallucinating, and you will continuously lose health until you either drink, or die.

This mod includes:
  • Hydration bar
  • Hallucinations when dehydrated
  • One new craftable item: leather pouch that can be filled with water
  • Admin commands.
This is my first implementation of a more difficult survival mod suite for gamers who prefer a challenge. By downloading this mod and submitting feedback, you will ultimately help this mod to become whatever the community would like it to become.

Available commands:

/drinkordieenabled true/false: enable or disable the mod.
/restorehydration: restores the hydration level of the calling player to max value.
/thirstperiod value: Sets the thirst period. The default value is 1500, but the user is encouraged to experiment with this and try to find a good value and maybe tell the rest of us?

Planned additions:
  • More complex algorithm to dehydration
  • More items
  • Hydration bar animations
  • Ability to drink water from water blocks (Highest priority)
The mod works 100% with its current functionality.

Disclaimer: This mod works on Minecraft version 1.4.7. The server uses craftbukkit and spoutplugun version 1.4.6, but they are compatible since 1.4.7 is a client update.

I'm sorry, but this just should not be a mod. Jeb and Dinnerbone need to put this in the freaking game. They already have bottles of water and milk, so they wouldn't have to program any items. And it would be the same thing as hunger, so not that much harder to code.
Jeb, pay Sane and put this in the game.

It'd be nice to have a slight chance of disease from drinking unfiltered water (10% or so). You could decrease it to 5% by using a filter (reusable, possibly with a durability like the anvil), or to 0% by boiling it to kill the germs after it's been filtered.

Or not, this is still a great mod! :D

Diamond, and you should add somekind of... Rum? Or some alcohol drink and a few more drinks that have funny side effects.
