Texas was the second of two new York class battlships. She and her sister were both commissioned shortly before WW1 broke out and both made it through. Throughout the interwar period both were used in many fleet exercises. Texas was in the Atlantic when Japan attacked pearl harbor but wasn't transferred to the Pacific. Later in the war during 1944 she was involved in operation overlord. Her objective was to shell enemy installations on the beach. Because she was unable to reach the beaches normally from where she was she flooded her torpedo bulges and increased her firing range. After the war ended she was bought by the state of Texas and you can go see her now.
