Cool idea, perhaps build it in Default. I know by saying that it lowers the quality and overall texture but it would pose a better challenge for you, and Default is used by most players only experienced and players who like to have a very nice textured game us Texture packs. So perhaps do it in default to make it more usable by server owners and make it cooler for players to view.
