Introducing “Lumina”, the tribal village of night hunters.

Lumina is an underground city deep within the forest, of what many would call barbarians, taking advantage of the natural cavernous formations under the surface.

The entrances to this city are well hidden and blend in with the natural terrain, and just as well guarded, intruders not being welcomed in the slightest.The people of Lumina are largely night hunters, those who are not are often taking care of the young, and only come out at night unless they have reason to be out during the day such as traveling or carrying goods to other lands for trading. They are elusive, evasive, and generally hard to find or interact with, disliking outsiders and being slow to trust until merit is proven through combat.

Warm fires and large communal gatherings, these “savages” show another side of themselves when with dear friends and family, the bonds they share being valued greatly over all else. Frequent hearty meat laden feasts and stews to celebrate the glory of the hunt, and more importantly the night they hold so dear, they find great glory in taking down large beasts in shows of gory competitorship, matching even the zeal of the Holy Kingdom in dexterous brutality and vicious precision. Frequent friendly spars and contests keep the energetic blood of brothers from spilling each others.

In the early days they were hardly more than a tribe, driven underground by the searing sun and hostile rising nations. They went all but forgotten by those same nations for the longest time, seldom heard of, seldom seen, whispers of strange night occurrences being the only thing left of their legacy. But underneath the soil and rock, these hunters carved out their city, their home, and made it into what it is today, coming out only at night at first out of fear of being discovered, and later out of long passed down tradition. They are thankful for the night, and all the food and even dangers it brings, because it kept them safe all these years. (edited)
They know the night far better than anybody else, giving them an untold advantage in combat when most would normally be sleeping, chaotic nighttime ambushes and guerilla warfare causing panic and leaving the enemy on edge and exhausted. Their vicious efficiency in combat shreds enemy morale, and their adrenaline fueled berserker rages shred the enemy themselves just as fast. While much smaller in number, they are by no means weaker.

While brutish to the outside observer, they are by no means stupid or uncultured;
Much of their culture includes skill with held and thrown weapons, fashioning of animal hides, meat focused cuisine, and surprisingly even works of art depicting the night and nature. Even their funerals are interesting in their own right, as the funerals are large celebrations of the fallen one’s lives rather than dreadful mourning of their deaths.

As it has been since the beginning roots of their tribe, Once a year, sometime toward the beginning of Spring, all the males leave the cavernous city on a mass hunt for the worthiest animal, all in the hopes of catching the heart of their chosen female within the tribe. The bigger and rarer the kill, the more likely the proposal being accepted by the female, though this is the general idea, not exactly a guarantee, as any female can decline for any reason.

Abuse to loved ones and tribemates or otherwise unneeded cruelty are heavily frowned upon and shunned within the tribe, the punishment being very serious for such infractions. The only thing more serious than those however, is betrayal. They share bonds not only as family and kin, but pack, so when these bonds are maliciously forfeited or discarded carelessly, the feeling of betrayal is truly awful and hurts them more than any claw or blade. When betrayed, more often than not the offender is exiled, never to come back. In certain cases, they are slain outright with vengeful retribution.
