This is a compilation of several road intersections that work together to create a functional road system. All of the parts fit into a 17x17 area, so with careful planning it can be integrated chunk for chunk.

The system consists of:
  • A U-Turn Junction
  • A T-Intersection Junction
  • A 4-Way Intersection
  • A Minecart Storage/Garage Unit.
Note that all of these comprise of 2 lanes.

The way it works is:
A cart will enter one of these junctions and be stopped by power rails. Beside him, there will be either 2 or 3 buttons that dictate his direction (U-Turn, Left, Right, or Straight). Once pressed, the power rails will be activated and the tracks will change, moving him to his chosen destination.
The Garage simply breaks carts and stores them in the system on entry, and feeds a cart and automatically launches it to the system as the player gets in.

If you are planning to integrate this in a town, here's a tip:
It makes more sense to build it underground, as if you are planning the town chuck by chunk, it will take up an entire area, leaving no room for sidewalks etc.

CONS:
  • There is redstone showing under the buttons. (The amount is minimal, the vast majority is hidden.)
  • Some Junctions leave no room for walkways etc in a chunck.
  • Some Junctions are bigger than an exact chunk. (This is very minimal, however, and the excess block is usually not a problem, as it easily fits in the next chunk of road.
  • Unlikely to be resource-friendly or assembly-friendly if being built in survival.
  • IMPORTANT- There are 2 'types' of T-Intersections due to the south-west rule of minetracks. One 'kind' works for two directions, however on the save all 4 directions are listed out.
  • IMPORTANT- If two players reach the same junction, they cannot press the buttons together. Have the one that got there first go, then go.

I think that this system is very cool just to have and use, and hope that you do too.
