Works in both 1.47 and the new snapshots! This is a piston free bi-directional counter (up and down) It's small efficient and just as importantly practically lag free due to the fact there are no pistons! Involves no comparators so the snapshots are not a necessity.

This design is small and also finds a use for the much neglected repeater locks! Each unit is only 7x4x2 and as far as Youtube would have me believe, is the only counter to add and subtract without the use of pistons.

I had a hard time figuring out a way to bypass the effect of the pulse that momentarily pass through all the counter. I'm currently fusing the counter with an opening/closing of big ceiling lights in a dark room. Each time a pulse was injected in the counter, all the lights were opening and closing rapidely 1 time and generated a very bid amount of lighting lag, and some lights would just stayed ON. Here's how I figured out the bypass. Have a good day!

It looks more like the Adding bit, subtracts and the subtracting bit adds.

I made some crazy convoluted piston version for my foosball one. This actually looks like a better alternative.
Check mine out if ya want.

Of course everything of mine in redstone is like 10x more complex than it needs to be.

Ya, makes ya look smarter in front of the people that know nothing of redstone and they are just "oh wow! thats awesome!"

Ive got a little better since then. A little.

My redstone doors that you have to open by getting all the lights on/off are simple but seeing it all together is ridiculous lol.
