These are real working portcullises based on a video by henness. it has a simple button to open AND CLOSE the gate. it's only 3 blocks wide and pretty cleverly built. the zip has a mcedit schematic with a 9 and a 7 block wide portcullis to fit in your castle. simply stand at the place your button will be (the wooden pressure plate in the picture) and paste it.

because it's rather compact it may take some figuring out but it follows all basic redstone rules. it uses more cornerblocks than redstone corners than most projects but that's what makes it so compact. feel free to put it somewhere in an open space and experiment with it
