When the young Ghastconian Republic first began using turreted ships against the Iugum Empire in the Eternity War, the ships were a bit crude, but devastating. However the empire was not going to have any of it, and began making advanced turreted ships, which tore right through the (at the time) medium cruisers of the republic. Due to this new challenge, the Republic Congress issued a contest for all the shipwrights and companies within the republic's boarders to create an advanced turreted ship that could take on the new imperial vessels. The Argeus Airworks won the contest, and the outcome was a 3 year contract to produce 100 Pocket Battleships to replace the old Essele Heavy Cruisers. These formidable warships tore clean through the most powerful imperial ships at the time, sometimes winning fights against 3 and 4 imperial ships at once. The ratio for every Pocket Battleship to Imperial ship shot down was 1:10. However soon the imperials began to create newer, more powerful ships, which made the new mainstay of the republic fleet nothing but a meat shield. After about 2 years they were mostly taken out of standard service and were replaced by Atlanta Class Heavy Cruisers, but it was far from the end of their era. They soon found usage in scouting and transport protection missions. But their greatest achievement after being taken out of regular service, was their heavy ground assault and ground support capabilities, able to wipe out entire columns of imperial troops.
