Hello! This is my build of the famous Cunard ocean liner RMS Carpathia, the rescue ship of the RMS Titanic. She is built in 1.8:1 scale, 311 blocks long and 39 blocks wide.

The RMS Carpathia was a mixed cargo/passenger liner built by the Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson shipyards for the Cunard Line. She was designed as a modified Ivernia-class ship, and though she wasn't the largest ship for her time, she was surprisingely very luxurious. Construction started in September of 1901 and she was launched nearly a year later. Her maiden voyage commenced on the 5th of May, 1903 from Liverpool to Boston. She also sailed at routes to the Mediterranean. In 1905 she was modified into carrying more passengers. She previously only had accomodations for second and third class, but first class was now also added.

On the 15th of April, 1912, Carpathia had left New York and was on her way to Austria-Hungary. aT 12:11 am, she received a distress call from the RMS Titanic, who was on her maiden voyage. She had struck an iceberg and was sinking fast. Carpathia's wireless operator, Harold Cottam, quickly informer Captain Arthur Rostron, and so Carpathia turned around and rushed to Titanic's aid. He commanded that all boilers be lit and full speed achieved. All water and heating was turned off to alocate as much power to the engines as possible. To avoid icebergs, Rostron placed extra look-outs on the bow to avoid a collision. Several icebergs passed her over the mad dash towards the sinking ship. All empty cabins were made ready and the officer's gave up their quarters for survivors to sleep in.

Carpathia arrived at the scene at 4 am. But by then, Titanic was long gone. 20 lifeboats remained, which Carpathia picked up over the course of the early morning. The very last survivor to board was second officer Charles Lightoller, the most senior surviving crew member. Blankets, hot food and drinks, and any support was offered to the survivors. It was decided that the Carpathia would return to New York and disembark the survivors. She left the scene at around 9:30 am. and took three days to arrive. She was flooded with transmitted messages asking about what happened, and the surviving wireless transmittor of the Titanic, Jack Philips, assisted Harold Cottam in relaying a list of all survivors to the closest port.

The crew was awarded with medals by Titanic survivors, which was presented by Margaret Brown. Arthur Rostron was knighted by King George V, and he also received congressional gold medal by President William Taft.

Carpathia would go on to serve in the World War 1, as a troopship carrying American and Canadian Expedionary Forces. Unfortunately, while other ships such as the Olympic or Mauretania could count on their speeds to dodge torpedoes, Carpathia had no such advantage. She was torpedoed while a part of a convoy of six ships traveling to Boston, on the 15th of July, 1918. She was hit three times by the German submarine SM U-55, crippling her and slowly causing her to sink. Almost three hours after the first torpedo hit, she slipped beneath the waves, with five casualties. Her wreck was found in 2000, resting upright 190 km west out of the coast of Ireland.
