This is the second version of my warehouse structure I built for a survival multiplayer server. It was designed to house a large amount of items in the most compact way while still retaining usability, design aesthetics, low resource use, visibility and MP protection capabilities.
This warehouse holds 100 double chests (200 small chests). Each double chest it meant to be used for either 1 item or a group of related items. The item frame on each chest will display either the item it contains or an item representing the group of items it contains (i.e redstone dust for redstone and redstone related items like torches and pistons).
This warehouse will not hold every item in the game if you choose to have a single double chest per item. I tried to design it originally with that in mind but then I would have needed roughly 200+ more double chests and so it becomes too large to look good in my opinion. If you wish to go that route, you can build 2 warehouses next to each other like I had done on the server, one for blocks and one for items.
I put in 3 skylights to help light up the interior during the day time. For night time, I put in 4 redstone lamps in the ceiling. I found that this didn't produce enough light for me (on max brightness) so I chose to add a lamp in between each chest. I do not like using glowstone as I find it to look ugly and not something you'd see in a proper building in real life. I like to build in the default texture pack (in this one I am using a higher res default texturepack) so everyone sees it the build like I do. Therefore, replacing the texture was out of the question.
I chose to put the chests 1 block inward from the wall to allow access to the back for placement of signs. In MP, most protection plugins use signs to prevent access to chests from un authorized players.
