“The Hall of Bright”, or "Hall of Clearing politics and culture", or Mingtang, is the main hall of the great dynasty in Ziwei City, known as the "Wanxiang shengong"(Heaven palace of every phenomenon on earth). Mingtang is an important ritual building used by ancient emperors for political distribution and worship. The Mingtang was divided into five halls, the middle of which is the Taishi, or Duanjian hall; It also has access to four rooms, which are divided into four directions: Qingyang in the East, Mingtang in the south, Zongzhang in the West and Xuantang in the north. There are left and right rooms in each of the four directions, namely "left" and "right".
The five halls of the Mingtang match with different seasons, colors, five elements, five emperors and five gods. The ancients believed that the son of heaven(emperor) should live and arrange politics in the palace in the corresponding direction in different seasons, so as to make heaven and man one, good weather and people live and work in peace and contentment. The so-called "Mingtang feast" is a national activity to worship five emperors in ancient time.
In the 24th year of Kaiyuan (736 A.D), Emperor Xuanzong went to Chang'an. In the 25th year of Kaiyuan (737 A.D), Emperor Xuanzong ordered Kang Weisu, a great craftsman, to go to the east capital to destroy the Ming hall. Kang peisu thought should only demolish the upper layer, which is 95 feet lower than before; The pillar core wood was removed, and an octagonal building was built on the flat seat. There were eight dragons holding fire beads in the air on the upper floor, and the lower floor was rebuilt into a new hall.
In the 28th year of Kaiyuan (740 A.D), the fire of Foguang Temple burned the Gallery House, and the new hall was changed to Hanyuan hall.
