Before the lands as they are known now as were formed the continent of Elysia was once ruled by a vast empire, one in which spanned across every corner of the realm. Calling the lands between modern Morvarid and Kahurangi home, this empire had expanded relatively rapidly as the deserts of Morvarid, mesas of Eleuia, and grasslands of Kahurangi became property of the empire. Due to the harsh conditions in the southern island of Inua, harsh conditions in the north withing Amathaunta territory, and the mountains which blockaded easy travel to Himavanta the eastern hemisphere of Elysia took a slow progression into being claimed by this empire. Staking their claim to the entire continent of Elysia, this empire soon became known as the Grand Elysian Empire.
At the birth of the Elysian empire it was seen as a paradise for all, even barbaric savages forsaking their ways to live within the glorious glow of the mighty empire. Cities dotted the lands as the empire merely inflated much like a balloon, the population of the empire growing to incomprehensible numbers as overcrowding become a prevalent issue within the far stretching cities. Despite various issues claiming to the empire it was a successful one nonetheless as rivers of gold flowed through a majority of the cities, various cultures occupying lands in a cooperative relationship to further themselves, religion being secularized throughout the empire as all were allowed to worship whomever they so pleased, and all with an empire strong enough to keep a tight grasp on every inch of their land. In the harshness of the wilds the empire was a beacon of light to other, a chance to live a life of luxury and peace.
No matter how powerful something is however, anything can be taken down if done so from the inside even the mightiest of lions or fiercest jaguars. Even the worst of people can become a powerful leader if charismatic enough this being the case with the newest leader of the Elysian empire named Emperor Adolphus VII, a man with words lathered in honey but a mind injected with the most powerful of venom. Through his reign emperor Adolphus VII passed a multitude of laws and reforms, his intentions hidden in the beginning as he merely increased his power, however with time his intentions became clear to all as freedoms were suppressed, power was horded, and the reign of tyranny had begun. With the rise of emperor Adolphus VII the Elysian empire rode the road of decline as citizen had begun rising in rebellion nearly every day in order to revert to the former empire, yet their actions were meaningless as the might of the military easily crushed rebellions.
All seemed hopeless for the empire as citizens emigrated out from the cities, many deciding it was safer and more free to live in the dangerous wilds rather than under the tyrannical eye of the emperor. The suffering did not end at the citizen either, many lords and ladies of the empire being subjugated to unjust demands and the military being forced to commit vile acts against the very people they were sworn to protect. Over time enough was enough as the lords, ladies, citizens, and military performed a coup d'etat against the tyrannical regime of Adolphus VII, the capital city coming under siege and eventual occupation by the revolutionaries. Due to the spite towards the emperor however a radical idea was put into place as the leaders of the revolution restrained the emperor within his grand palace, the members of the revolt torching the city to the ground as it was reduced to ash effectively removing the capital city along with the tyrant of an emperor whom reigned from it.
Despite the collaboration to crush the tyrannical government the combined forces had no plans after the emperor was defeated, thus leading to an event commonly known as the Elysian Schism which divided the revolutionaries into two forces, the Elys whom wished to restore the empire to its former glory and the Venn whom wished to create a new empire which would rule the known world. Both were equal in power as neither could trump either force, thus leading to a war which lasted only a seven days but each was more blood filled and grueling than the rest. With the forces battling one another day in and day out many perished, a plethora of the former Elysian citizens became one with the soil as their efforts seemed to be for not. There was no capital city, no army, no emperor, no citizens, and none left willing to restore the empire after the collapse of the tyrant and the death of the revolutionaries by their own hands; therefore leading to the shattering of the Elysian empire, the news rippling throughout the lands as, for the first time in nearly a thousand years, the land of Elysia had no ruler to lay claim to the lands. None to horde the riches, none to provide safety for citizens, and none to oppress the rise of the new empires of the world.
