A couple years ago, the build team called "Lands of Asera" [PMC Homepage] constructed a map deemed to be a historically accurate representation of a Viking (Scandinavian) Settlement on Greenland. Upon finding this map I fell in love with it and just HAD to experience surviving in it with other people - as I'm sure Lands of Asera would've wanted it ;) SO I've put togther the start my second, pride and joy, legacy server - and I'm opening it to the public today as sort of a... test to see if people will like this sort of thing. No whitelist, no strict rules, just roleplay. I trust most people joining will get with the theme and take up their shield and ulfbert and roleplay with us. If not, we have plans for you... The story goes that we are the first shipload of Scandinavians to settle on this new-found continent for an extended period of time. Iceland, in its day, was a rather unforgiving land (not as much as greenland, but still), and I've tried to mimic that in the server. We will have seasons to survive each representing it's own unique hardship. Yes, I said Iceland.
(I know the map was meant to be Greenland by the team who built it, but I personally find Iceland to be much more exciting - at least where the Vikings are concerned. Plus it puts us far enough back in history to be involved in more raiding!!)
Here's a showcase video of the map: (Gives lots of good insight on the historical aspect - they really put a lot of reasarch and passion into this):

So long story short - this is starting out as sort-of a Roleplay Survival Story. We need to make it through a harsh winter before we can even think about going on summer raids over to Ireland and England. I've stocked us up on a realistic ammount of livestock, woods and metals - but we will run out before the end of winter, I'm sure of it. This will make for some interesting famines and some interesting power control. I'm hoping a group of people will break off from the main village/clan to start their own - and eventially battle our clan for land control of Iceland! And no - this map isn't supposed to be all of Iceland. It's a little island off the coast of the western bay I call Skaverat. I will create and impliment new maps for us to sail to once we start raiding!
(Enjin Website coming if people like this server!)

Feature wize, this server is quite stocked so far. It's not just vanilla - mind you. We have craftable - historically accurate - Viking items and weapons such as working 3D textured shields (you can craft them in different designs and colors!) Ulfberts, Battle Axes, Spears, Throwing Axes, Rawhide Goods and personalized Torks with different colors, designs, and animal heads. (the metal and gold arm bracelets that Scandinavian boys who come of age recieve) This DOES mean we have a manditory custom reseouce pack for you to install, which you can find here:

I've put together a couple of graphics to help you understand the backstory and lore of where we're starting off:
