I would say to start by finding insperation for a shading style, then try practicing. If you keep on practicing and finding more insperation, you'll start to develop your own shading style. Also, try to find unique styles and outfits for your skins. Don't put any colors that might be too distracting, either. I'd reccomend starting with some pastel colors and see how that works out for you.
