Dr. Eggman is the name that was given to him in Japan. The skin you created is known as Dr. Ivo Robotnik however before he was named Robotnik, he was known as Dr. Ovi Kintobor, the GOOD scientist. 'Dr. Eggman' is actually a robot in which has Robotnik's soul in it. The soul entered the robot as Robotnik was killed by Sonic and the Freedom Fighters. Want proof that Eggman is a robot? Find a picture where he shows his eyes. They will be black with red pupils.
