It had been seven years since the last time Japan had felt Godzilla's wrath. The country had just managed to pull out of the devastation wreaked by the King of the Monsters, and now Godzilla seemed unreal, like an urban legend, a threat that would never be encountered again. Unfortunately for the Japanese people, they were dead wrong. The first sign of the return of the monsters came with the discovery of a huge beast on the tiny Faro Island. The scientist who discovered the monster saw a golden opportunity for making money, and tells the head of the Pacific Pharmaceuticals company, Mr. Tako. Tako is unhappy with the success (or lack thereof) of the TV shows his company is sponsoring, and thinks that a monster is just what they need to boost ratings. However, before he can organize something, an American submarine accidentally crashes into an Iceberg in the Antarctic. The iceberg turns out to be the same one the JSDF trapped Godzilla inside of back in '55, and the Monster King is released once again on an unsuspecting world. The great beast destroys the submarine, and advances upon the nearest sign of human life, an antarctic military base, which he razes to the ground. He also manages to destroy the tank armory before disappearing into the deep. News of this event explodes across the Japanese media, making Tako's claims of a monster all but irrelevant. He is infuriated by this, and orders his men on Faro Island to hurry up and catch the monster. His wish is soon granted, as the beast, revealed to be the great ape King Kong, soon appears to defend his island from an attack by a giant octopus. Afterwards, the grateful inhabitants of the island offer Kong some berry juice, which severely intoxicates him. Seizing the opportunity, Tako's men capture the ape and begin transport back to Japan. However, halfway there the convoy is stopped, as the JSDF do not want another monster in Japan. However, while this is going on, Kong awakens and breaks loose from his constraints. In the meantime Godzilla has come ashore in Japan and is trying to gain access to Tokyo. Repelled by 1,000,000 volt power lines, he retreats into the countryside. Fresh from his escape, Kong also comes ashore, but is unaffected by the power lines in fact, they seen to energize him, making him even stronger. After a short attack on the city, he is brought down by missiles filled with berry juice, and taken into JSDF custody. It is decided that the only way to be rid of both monsters is to have them do battle. Thus, Kong is balooned over to the Mt. Fuji area, where Godzilla is. The two titans commence fighting. In the start of the battle, Godzilla has the advantage, bludgeoning Kong with his massive tail and kicking him repeatedly. Just as the King of Monsters is about to kill the ape with his atomic breath, a lightning storm hits, revitalizing Kong. The beast lunges at Godzilla, swinging him around by his tail, stuffing a tree into his mouth, and tossing the mutant monster over his shoulder like a martial artist. The fight between the two intensifies, and makes its way down to the coastline, where kong and Godzilla plunge into the water, still brawling. The pair stay underwater for a few tense seconds, before Kong emerges, apparently victorious. However, soon after, Godzilla's roar is heard, showing that the King still lives.

"Godzilla vs King Kong" was the first of the many "Godzilla vs..." films. The Kong costume that was used is widely considered to be one of the most atrocious gorilla suits ever designed. The movie is actually a keen parody of the Japanese media, and works very well in this light. However, when transitioning over into the states, this was lost, and what remains is a, for the most part, terrible monster movie. However, the Godzilla suit designed for this film would go on to be one of the most well-liked suits in Godzilla history, and had a strong influence on most, if not all, of the suits that came after it.



King Kong is entry number three in my Godzilla skin series. I just got back from G-fest, so this is not the most impressive skin I've ever made (G-fest was AWESOME, by the way). Next is Mothra!
