Medivh, which translates to "keeper of secrets" in Thalassian, was the last Guardian of Tirisfall, an ancient line of protectors bestowed with great powers and the great staff "Atiesh," to hold back the burning legion and protect Azeroth. Despite Medivh's many deeds of greatness and magical prowess, he succumbed to the power of Sargeras, lord of the Burning Legion. Under Sargeras's power, he and orc warlock Gul'Dan opened the Dark Portal, bringing the horde to Azeroth. His friends and apprentice were then forced to slay him, as he had become an agent of the Legion. Regardless of Medivh's eventual failure to defeat Sargeras, he trained an apprentice named Khadgar, who inherited "Atiesh" and continues to fight for Azeroth, further to Medivh's unyielding resolve, he is resurrected as a spirit and guides the mortal inhabitants of Azeroth to form an alliance, winning the pivotal battle of Mount Hyjal against the Burning Legion. Medivh overcomes his failure, and even in death continues to fight for Azeroth.
