Hello everyone! This is a skin I made for The Under The Sea Skin Contest! When I saw the title and was thinking about what I should do, the first thing that hit my mind was a mermaid. So here it is! I REALLY hope you like it!

Megami No Mizu - A Story About The Shark-raised Mermaid

Megami - Goddess
Mizu - Water
So her name means, "Goddess of Water", or "Water Goddess".

Megami No Mizu is a mermaid that was raised by a group of sharks. One day, while Mizu was swimming in her search of valuables, she got caught in a strong current by a whirlpool and got separated from the others. Every day she searched for home but no matter which way she went she never got back home. But that didn't make Mizu give up. She continued her search until she found a small island. She had hoped that she could find someone or something that could help her, but no one was there. She searched all through the water surrounding the island, but there was still nothing. A few weeks later, she saw another island. She searched the island by her limits, but still found nothing. 4 years later, she finally saw her home. After so many years, she finally found it. But her joy only turned into sorrow, once she found out that there was no one left...

Mizu was all alone. She had no friends nor family now. It was quiet, lonely, and depressing. She swam around hoping she'd find someone until she saw a single shark moving around. She asked, "Hello? Can you tell me what happened here?". "Fishermen.", said the shark. "Oh, no! But why!?!", said Mizu. "Is there any way I can get them back?", continued Mizu. "Afraid not. They were caught a week ago. Who knows if there's even one of them still alive.", replied the shark in sorrow. "*Sniff sniff* but they were my family. The only family I had...", said Mizu beginning to cry. "I'll be all alone. There may be other fish in the sea, but not like them!", continued Mizu, "It's not fair!". "Kid, you're better off going some else where. This place is a desert sea now. No plants, no fish, nothing. Soon enough, they're just going to build a building around this place and make it an underwater aquarium. It's no use.", said the shark with a sigh. "IT'S NOT FAIR! My dad, my mom, my friends, they took it ALL! I won't let ANYTHING happen to this place! They'll all pay!", said Mizu in a mood of vengeance. Mizu swam to surface to the small island above, and crawled onto land. All of a sudden, Mizu's tail transformed into two legs. Mizu walked unsteadily on the sand, shocked. "I'm...human!?", said Mizu. And that was the day that Mizu learned that when on land, she turns into a human form, and when in the water again, she turns back into a sea form.

Mizu decided that she'd protect that place until she was dead. But even then, it was her spirit that would carry on the duty as the Sea Keeper.

Ever since that day, no one ever saw Megami No Mizu. Her appearance was never seen again. Eventually, the legend of the mermaid raised by sharks was a legend, and generations later it became a myth. However, sailors set sail hoping someday, they would come back in the joy of success over finding the truth. But sailors weren't the only ones, pirates were in search as well. The tale of the mermaid raised by sharks was told to the parents children, and their children's children. Some of the children grew up to go to sea in search of the mermaid. And the time that they said goodbye and set sail was the last time anyone saw them. Some said that they were probably in search. Others said that they died before they even made it.

No one knew what happened to the brave sailors and pirates. No one ever found any trace of them. Not a boat, not a flag, nothing. However, centuries later, there were reports that a sailor returned home. Only one. But a few days later after his return, he mysteriously died. However, his last words were carved on a legendary stone that sat in the middle of the town. The sailors last words were, "The shark mermaid.....Her spirit....she's still alive."
