Felkaranos once was a lighthouse guardian in a small trading town. He lived in the lighthouse, and every night he lit the fire so that ships would steer clear of the sharp rocks that had ended the lives of many unfortunate sailors. One night he thought he saw something - or someone - floating in the water, and he climbed down the dangerous cliffs, only to find that there was nothing. Just that moment, he realised that the ghosttide - a storm of angered spirits - was closing in on him, and he could find no way out.

Ten days passed. Ten days without a sign of Felkaranos. Then, on the morning of the eleventh day, a man crawled out of the sea, onto the rocky beach. People were calling it a miracle. But the sea and the ghosts had taken their toll. Felkaranos could no longer sea, nor speak, nor hear. Believing himself a cripple with no future, he almost took his own life. There was something that stopped him though. Some secret knowledge he had never felt before, some knowledge he knew he had, but could not properly access.

Through hours and hours of meditation, he finally broke the barrier in his mind, being suddenly overwhelmed by the amount of information. Felkaranos realised that he knew everything that had ever happened, and everything that would ever be. Intent on using his newly found gift for the greater good, he began writing the story of everything.
