This version of Santa Claus was made (in my opinion) by the poem called "A Visit By Saint Nicholas" by Clement Clark Moore. He is characterized as wearing a cherry-red suit with white fur trim,black boots, huge belt, and matching hat. This version of Santa is what I believe most people think of when they hear of the jolly elf that gives good Christian children toys, and all the rest lumps of coal or nothing... I mean, seriously people, what's up with that?
So, yes, this is a bit early, but hey, Walmart already has Easter stuff out where I live... it's insane!
