In folklore, Sea Witches were the cursed souls of women lost at sea. Encountering a Sea Witch meant dooming your ship to sink at the hands of a terrible storm. However, if a crew were to befriend a Sea Witch during their encounter, they could avoid the curse, in favour of good luck. There are even stories of sailors attempting to court these creatures, with a couple succeeding.

In reality, Sea Witches are harmless little things; yet another creature that appears human, but is decidedly not.

They can be found anywhere in the ocean, but most likely congregate in the depths where little light can reach, due to their bioluminescent nature. The ‘dress’ they wear is actually a set of connected fins, which they use for locomotion. & their ‘tears’ aren’t indicative of any emotion, the stuff consistently leaks out of their ‘tear ducts,’ & appears to be a form of waste material.

Sea Witches are scavengers, eating whatever’s around. Pincer-like digits at the end of each ‘arm’ are used to crush things before they’re sucked into their ‘mouths,’ also located on each arm. But they’ve also been observed cutting small chunks out of larger animals, such as whales & sharks, leaving a roughly cut hole. The teeth surrounding their bodies appear the be residual, as they serve no purpose & happen to be quite dull. However, the section between their upper & lower ‘jaws,’ serve as a filtration device, catching plankton & algae to be absorbed for additional sustenance.

Sea Witches are quite intelligent. The incident recorded above shows that Sea Witches are capable of having at least a basic understanding on human activity, & tests conducted on captive instances have shown them to be capable of solving a variety of complex puzzles. The reason for this intelligence is unknown, as their lifestyle doesn’t require much problem-solving skills.

The incident above also reveals that Sea Witches are capable of walking on land, but such behaviour hasn’t been recorded without the inclusion of human influence.

In short, Sea Witches possess a variety of traits which have seemingly no purpose in terms of their survival.

Well, that was fun.

It’s been a while, you know, since I’ve posted a skin.

The last skin I published was submitted 11 months ago,

& the last Ethos skin, was published at the beginning of Lockdown.

So yeah, it’s been a while.

I like to think of this skin as the beginning of a new period of activity for me. A time where I can make a couple of things before I sink back down into the abyss for another year.

So as celebration, I wanted to put a bit of extra effort into making this thing.

Heck I even broke out digital art for the first time, I guess an iPad is all you really need...

that & a damp q-tip wrapped in tinfoil to serve as a stylus, but we don’t talk about that.

I also wanted to do a bit of rebranding for my Ethos skins, but redoing my old skins will have little effect on anything, so I’ll just shove that stuff into some kind of legacy folder, or something.

But that depends on how many new things I make.

I started this skin back in like, May of 2020, maybe.

Can’t have been earlier than that, as I based the original colour scheme on this music video, a colour scheme no longer in use.

Geez.

& one more thing, if you’re still here. My inactivity on here isn’t like, eating away at my mental health or anything. I’ve been doing fairly decent in the past while, this site is the least of my worries. But, I still wanna do stuff here, I don’t feel like falling into complete inactivity just yet.

So yeah, ideally I’ll be a bit more active here, but we’ll have to see what happens.
