The year is 4026. The day is December 25.

Christmas.

Exactly ten years after the nuclear war--and 23 year old Ayer Peterson has been caged inside of a small, suffocating shelter since then. Only leaving a few times was enough for the extreme radiation to affect her--some of her skin rotted, letting the pink-ish flesh be seen and infected as well. Ice coated her hands and parts of her face. The side of her head is caked in blood from an encounted with some sort of thing that Ayer didn't have a name for yet.

Christmas... Just the thought of the day that Ayer and her family lost brought tears to her already burning eyes. Great...as if she wasn't in enough pain.

That day...December 25, 4016. It had all been so sudden. So unexpected. I mean, sure, the bomb threat had been there for a while, but that was it. It had just been there. Hanging over the world by a thread. No one ever thought it would happen until the alarms in each home were blaring, shouting at all citizens to evacuate their homes and head to shelter. Naturall, Ayer and her now-dead-brother were the only ones to make it.

Before the disaster, the area was populated by four thousand people.

Afterwards, there were only two.

Sighing deeply, Ayer placed her head on the ground and closed her eyes to the searing pain in her head and pulled her blood red, dirt-covered jacket tighter around her freezing form. And she never woke up.

Over one hundred years later, the area was still considered uninhabitable. Many researchers were exploring the area to see what was left--that is, until one man came across a small, almost hidden shelter.

"Hey! Ariana, quick! Over here!" The man turned towards the rest of his group and shouted. "Found a shelter--d'you think it's safe to go inside?"

"Safe?" A woman with crimson hair responded, letting out a small and nervous chuckle. "Nothing here's ever gonna be safe, George. You should know that by now." Ariana paused for a moment, then shrugged. "Yeah, we'd best go in just to see what's left." The two, after about ten minutes of frustration, managed to pry the trapdoor open and slipped inside to see nothing but frozen water. And inside of this water was something that surprised the two researches and filled their expressions with horror. "Oh, gods.." Ariana murmured.

Inside of the ice was a girl in her early twenties, wearing a red jacket.
