love it, the reason why the totem was changed is because this item is part of the evokers, which have been created by them, this is why it currently represents an illager face, rather than just a sock puppet.

That can be true, but since it's a drop from the evoker, it's supposed to represent an illager.

but why would it represent a villager when illagers want to kill them and not be the ones that save them-
unless........
what if evokers are kidnapping villagers, and turning them into life-saving totems????

Presumably the totem gives evokers the ability to summon fangs and vexes, and changing blue sheep to red.
