So I know I abandoned this back in like 1.12 I think but I've been feeling a little creative lately, so I did some work
This is not finished and honestly I don't know if it ever will be, because as long as I remember, it never was to begin with
But hey, who cares, I have a working version of woodpecker for 1.17 out so that's nice I guess
Also to anyone new here, if you see this posted anywhere else, it's very likely because I gave permission to anyone who wanted to update it and use it in their work, and I'm fine with that


Woodpecker is a resource pack best described as cartoony medieval or cartoony rpg. What that means is rich, vibrant colors, a rustic aesthetic and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.


Additionally, it features many randomized textures for most natural blocks like planks, stonebricks, cobblestone, dirt, stone, plants, sand, ores, netherrack, and more!



An incomplete list of things that are missing:

-some items probably? (I have not really looked into this)
-blocks (amethyst, lush cave blocks, copper ore, nether plants, some others)
-some mobs (panda, ender dragon, axolotl, bee, piglin, striders and maybe some others)
-particles (I have them done from the old versions but they are in a single big texture, and mojang changed that so every particle has its own texture, so I will need to separate them)
-paintings (same story)
-armor (they sucked, so I removed them)
-gui (same story except I actually have added some new ones already)


Also known issues:
-wooden blocks (e.g. doors, trapdoors) have slightly different colors than their planks (will be fixed)
-slab/double slab/stair versions of blocks with random textures do not use the random textures (will be fixed)

I'm not gonna list everything that IS in it, because that's like everything not listed above

I was searching through the textures because i like modifying resource packs and came across the foliage, grass and other colourmap textures.
Whoever made them is a genius its amazing to see how they work with that diagram in the colourmap folder.
Made my day.

I was thinking about making a new post for this reason, like I don't wanna invalidate his or anyone's efforts

Also I'm changing alot of textures, so you could see that as a classic version

But I thought, well I changed more than I made new textures, but the style is still mostly the same, it looks more like a spinoff or something like that, so I just updated this post

This is easily one of my favourite resource packs. It adds much-needed vibrancy to the game with care and polish without deviating too much from the vanilla style, so textures that haven't been completed yet don't feel too out of place. The only suggestions I have at the moment are to make biome tints vary more instead of all using an extremely similar green, which could be accomplished by making the grass and leaves textures greyscale with slight blue and yellow tints for hueshifting so the biome tint can work better, alongside tweaking the biome colours if you feel it to be neccessary (The official wiki has a great infographic explaining which pixels refer to which biomes on 1.15 and above). Other than that, I don't have much else to say. Great work :)

P.S. support for fabric's connected textures mod and/or an orange birch leaves addon would be nice ;p

I was thinking about remaking the biome colors, right now the grass texture already is very green so it's hard to tell the difference between biomes

God knows why I did that lol

I don't know about the connected textures mod, I always wanted to make it with optifine but tbh I have no idea what even is popular right now when it comes to that stuff, like if optifine is even used much anymore or not, that kinda thing

What I always loved was the ability to change sky colors and add more biome specific colors in general as well as random mob textures, if that were in vanilla I'd be so happy lol

Optifine still sees usage but it's slowly being phased out thanks to the Fabric modloader, which is growing in popularity rapidly for multiple reasons. Some mods are compatible with Optifine's format (such as Colormatic, which allows for customisation of hardcoded colours like Optifine) but others use their own format, so you'll have to make a decision there. The Varied Mob Textures mod uses its own format, but there's a tool which allows users to convert from Optifine format to VMT's format.
Personally I'd recommend prioritising Fabric CTM before working on Optifine format but im totally not biased at all haha

Thanks for the input, I'll check these out sometime but for now, I'll focus on what I can do with vanilla

I did download optifine for 1.17 because I get really low fps in 1.17 (around 40-50 windowed and 10-20 in fullscreen, no matter what map/graphic options I use) but for some reason it increases the reload time for resource packs (F3+T) and since I'm doing that alot, I stuck with vanilla for now :P

If you're interested in switching to Fabric I can recommend Sodium and Lithium for optimisation; Sodium actually provides a higher performance boost than Optifine. You can also check out this Github Gist by Lambdaurora for more optimisation mods you may like.

Another thing to note which I didn't notice until now: in icons.png there is no texture for the frozen heart icons, meaning they'll show up as invisible ingame.
